1994 Chev K1500 brake line flare style

Recommended Posts

Not many American cars if any used a bubble flare back then, I'm sticking with a double flare.

Most, if not all Gm cars had bubble flare back then. I've completely relined more than a few park ave's and their like, always using bulk line. That's how I know that. 18 flares on those cars during a complete replacement.

The trucks, I can't remember as they fail a lot less. Just going to have to take it apart and see.

Don't forget to slide the nut on before flaring!

Now that you mention it, it may be different on cars and trucks, and that was around the time ABS became standard on many cars. Could be around when they started using them.I know in the 80s I worked with GM test engineers to convert and install 4wheel ABS on 8 of our fleet vehicles. (1 ton trucks) They were originally standard brakes and we installed all the components to make them ABS. I'm talking everything from the master cylinder back. Did that ever get confusing. They had 4 different sized lines, stuff we removed had one size, the ones we installed were another, some were metric, some were SAE and some had different nut sizes on the same lines, and that was just the plumbing. Then we had to install all new rotors, calipers, wheel speed sensors, wiring harness and an ABS control module. In the past it was mainly European cars that used bubble flares, but they are getting more common all the time.

That's exactly why I have a bubble flare tool and a partial roll of bulk brake line...former owner of a 1994 LeSabre. That era of Buick has to be the title holder of King of Rusty, Blown Brake Lines.
