Extending WiFi network

I agree SP. I honestly have not experienced an issue on 2.4ghz. Only thing I have noticed with 5ghz is the signal strength does not have the fluctuation as it does with 2.4. Does make a difference, none that I can see. Maybe in a commercial area it would.

God stuff Upnorth. smile

Not even sure if Bob is still working with this or not, but I will keep my eyes open for anything used that pops up I see at a can't pass up price.

I know people off-set the price of internet service by selling within apartment complexes and inner city areas in a similar fashion as my setup, so there should be some complete setup solutions at the "bailing out of it" price range. grin

Keep in mind "boosting" your signals can cause some legalities issues and maybe illegal according to FCC.

When adding firmware like stated above it is appropriate to make sure you keep it with in the FCC regulation.

I think you can go up to 1 Watt with an omni-directional antenna and up to 4 Watts with a directional antenna.

Still reading along to gain education. Sounds like what we would like to do will come with more cost than I originally hoped so it'll be up to our council to decide if anything is approved. Thanks.

Where are you located? I would see what cell company offers coverage where you are (Church) and then see about the wireless hotspot option. I have T-Mobile and my phone (MyTouch4g) puts out a wifi hotspot for free, as long as I don't abuse it. I bought my phone off C.L. For $100 and it works amazingly well. Even saved my bacon when the DLS went down at my business a couple of times.

I also have a Verizon wireless modem that looks like a USB stick. It is a pay as you go device, however the time you buy expires in either a day, week, or month depending on the amount. It would be better to have one that does not expire till you use the data you paid for. Don't think anyone offers that as an option though.

I highly recommend checking into the cell wifi hotspot a mentioned above. The big if is if you can get a signal where you are located.
