Trebles on spinners

Recommended Posts

I used to tie my spinners with a treble on the back hook. There were days that I seemed to 'dump' a lot of fish on the way to the boat. Last year, I started tying some with two #2 Octopus hooks. A Mustad wide gap in the front, and a Gamakatsu in the rear. I instantly notice a lot more fish ending up in the net. More times than not, the Mustad hook was buried in the 'beak' of the walleye. I'm sold.

I see no need for a treble. I actually found them to collect a lot of debry so I stick to two single #4 or #2 hooks. Only place I ever run a treble on the back is out on Lake Superior and even then its not very often because I already have hundreds of other spinners with single hooks already tied up.

my brother has single hooks on all of his spoons on lake superior. he also says he has better hooking results with them. on spinner crawler rigs i only have two single hooks i tie myself. i feel it gives the crawler a better "look" when trolling. good luck.
