'97 Dodge Dakota interior lights staying on

Recommended Posts

My GF's son has a 97 Dodge Dakota and, apparently, a while back the interior lights started staying on and draining the battery. He has taken out all the bulbs as a (hopefully) temporary measure.

Don't have a wiring schematic for the truck. Any known issues in this regard or advice on a good place to begin troubleshooting?

First I'd start with the easy stuff if you haven't already like shutting the doors tightly and then looking for the switch inside that manually turns the lights on inside the cab if it has one. After that start looking into the wires.

this may not be relavent, but my Ranger was doing the same thing. I finally figured out that the key switch wasn't getting turned off all the way. I have to double check to make sure the key is in the off position all the time now.

The door switches would be a good start.

It also wouldn't hurt to make sure the interior light switch is not on. We get one every once and a while where this is the case. We usually show the customer how this switch works so it won't be an issue in the future.
