Logging

I have another thread going about my dogs itching problem, but I'm wondering if anyone else is logging their dog yet?

I take Jeffery out for a 5 mile or so run every day when I get home from work. Don't kid yourself, I'm riding the 4 wheeler, he's running. Time to get into really good shape.

Anyhoo, I've logged the dog in the past but I never really know when it's a good time to start. Anyone else out there doing this yet?

You are actually referring to "roading" your dog. It is best to keep your dog in good shape all year round if possible. If not, you should start ramping up the road work a month to 2 months before your big event starts or hunting season starts. Historically I've always started in August for hunting in October.

GSP, I know where you're coming from, and I agree. The dog that stays in good shape year round is a better dog.

I take the dog out running all year. He stays in good shape. In the late summer we ramp it up a bit.

What I'm referring to is, around my part of the prairie, what we call logging. Tying logs to the dog while they run. Not huge but enough to give them some drag.

Or maybe we're talkin about the same thing and just using different lingo.
