kc0myy
This morning we got into the woodies. I out of 3 guys we got six woodies. All drakes and one hen. My question is...did your woodies have full colors? All the drakes we got all the full colors or close to it. I would not classify them all wall mounters but you could tell very very well which were drakes and hens. I just find it weird that the season opened a week earlier and the woodies had full colors. One drake's bill was a little dull. do you know why we all had woodies we close to full colors? I have shot wood ducks early in the season too but nothing with close to full colors. Yes, I have shot quite a few with full plummage color in the past. Kids day, waterfowl opening weekend. Wood ducks seem to have good color starting mid September not all but yeah. Fins-n-feathers
Opening weekend we ended up shooting 5 woodies and all but one was in full plummage - one out of the five was a hen

gurkster
I shot a couple in full color. I assumed the full color ones were mature birds. The young ones may not be in full color yet.
Bryce
Thought I read that woodies are the only duck that doesn't molt. The better the color, the more mature the bird.
