Changing the Turkey Zones for 2012

Thanks Don, and I hope your right about these changes!

I'm just afraid my group is in the same boat as Leech's. 349 early seasons have historically been easier to draw than say 342,343, 341, etc. Now Leech will be in a drawing with all the people who used to apply for 342, etc and have been unsuccessful for 2, 3, 4 years. For people that hunted one of those easier-to-draw areas and were hoping to draw an early season permit based on past experience,this might be a rude awakening.

I'm sure the cost in time and resources has diven this as well as the expanding popularity of hunting turkeys in MN.

Many of the same concerns with many applying for the "lottery" seasons and who knows how the pressure for hunting land will be affect as I live on the boundary of two old permit area that get applied for pretty heavily.

Time will tell. With the expanded over the counter season there may be fewer people bothering to go through the drawing process.

The part I like about it is that I live on the line between 2 zones and now there is no boundary for me since I can hunt both sides of TH 71.

I agree with you rbs. There aren't a lot of quality spots in far southwestern Mn. but these new zones opened one up that was a couple of miles on the wrong side of the zone I usually hunted. Like the change so far.

The only way I won't like this is if my wife can't get a permit because they are all bought up before we get there. But there is other seasons available.

I think its great it expands my area to a whole new level cause I have spots that I would like to try and now I can.
