Would you replace??

Hello,

THe drive sprocket broke on my garage door opener. A new "sprocket set" is 40$$. The opener is 11 years old. Would you pay the 40$ or consider just replacing the whole thing for $150?

chain drives are so 90's

Its really up to you how long you feel the motor will work on a 10 year old door opener.

The new screw drive doors are quite and reliable...we have the Genie ones and they have been flaw less.

What make opener do you have? I did a Liftmaster a couple years ago and it has worked great. It's a plastic gear that was very easy to replace and I think I only paid 25.00 to 30.00 dollars on hsolist for the part. Guess I can't say the online site by the _bay

+1 on the gear replacement for a Liftmaster, I can't comment on other brands even though I think alot of them are the same and rebadged for their respective company. The kit was less than $25 shipped, and took about an hour. Mine didn't "break" so much as the plastic/nylon drive gear was slowly worn down by the worm gear from years of use. It must be common as there were loads of options for finding a replacement, and they weren't all in the bay.

Yea, you gotta grease those screws every other year to prevent the wear on the shuttle.

I had to replace the one on my shop door after about 6 years, and then I greased the other ones on the attached garage and they have lasted almost 7 years now and still going.

After about an hour I replaced the parts and back to normal. Hopefully we can get another couple years out of it!!!
