waxworm09
Im pretty new at waterfowl hunting, and wondering what shot to use for ducks and geese, and what choke to use. I just bought a box of winchester blind side 3" 2 shot 1 3/8 oz. shot, I was thinking that is a good duck shell, and should be heavy enough to drop a goose? I will be mainly duck hunting, I just want to make sure I have something heavy enough to drop a goose if needed, but small enough not to rip a duck into pieces. I also have 2 chokes, a imp/mod, and a mod. which choke should i use? And any other suggestions would be great, Im trying to get ready for duck season and want to be prepared
goblueM
sounds pretty good. a little light for geese but should drop em just fine if you shoot straight and you're inside 25-30 yardseither choke is fine, depends on the situation, ammo, and your preference
Walleye Guy
You will have no problems killing ducks or geese with that load.
life=outdoors92
You will have no problems killing ducks or geese with that load. +1 walleye guy. 2 shot is great for a goose and all around load. little heavy for teal and smaller divers but it will kill plenty of geese. i was shooting 2s on goose opener and dropped 2 geese while pass shooting that were 40+ yards with a mod choke. Seabass77
I shoot my ducks and geese up close over decoys, most shots at 20 yards or less so I prefer a IC choke. I think many people use too much choke.
kgpcr4
Its all about choosing your shots. Slugs and 00buck wont work if you shoot at birds to far away. Wait for a good shot or dont take the shot. Your load you mentioned is as good as it gets!
surewood
I like Black Cloud 3.5" BBB for geese. For ducks I like 3" BB winchesters. Don't shoot alot of geese around here so I spend more on goose loads. Winchester I can get around 10 or 11 dollars a box in BB. Have never ripped apart a duck with BB yet. It hits them hard and I seem to have less cripples. Just what works for me anyway. I've used 2's and 3's and 4's they do the job also. Hookmaster
If I could only have one duck load it would be Kent Fasteel 3 inch 3 shot. Ballistics say it will kill to 55 yards. This is a good big lake load when shots are a little longer used with a modified choke. For pothole hunting when the ducks suck in close I will use 2 3/4 inch or 3 inch Kent Fasteel in 4s, 5s or 6s depending on what is cheapest with an improved cylinder choke. The ducks hardly have a chance. I think most guys use way to big a shot size.
otterman91105
For me i use 3" BB or 2 for geese, and for ducks i shot 2 shot all the way up to 4 shot. I use modifed choke. These seem to work good for me.
