Lost for a lake...

Really wanting to get out this weekend and do some fun fishing. I finished league last night for the year... finished all the tournament fishing for the year... so I do not need to prefish anything... so I am looking for a good lake to head to and I am LOST! Any advice?

Central MN area.

I am up for partner if anyone wants to ride along!

Here's what you do:

Go to the DNR HSOforum, and find the Recreation Compass. Zoom around in it, and research some lakes in your area. Don't just look at the survey numbers - bass don't always survey well if they only use nets, so read the status of the fishery summary and you can sometimes get more info on the population. Then print out a lake map or two and go give it a shot. Pick smaller lakes close together and you can fish a couple of them in a full day.

It's a fun adventure to just go learn new water, a great learning exercise in finding fish, and you can uncover some real gems. This is one of my favorite things to do, and I set a goal of fishing at least 5 new lakes every season. My current "pet lake," which has produced some 100 fish days for me this year, was found this way.

I'd highly encourage taking a chance on some new water in the area.

Cheers,

Rob Kimm

I have done this before and have found some good lakes, but I did try out the recreation compass on the DNR site and I was pretty impressed! Thanks for sharing.

Still have an open seat in the KittyCat if anyone is interested in going hog hunting for some bass.
