Small suicks?

Has anyone ever used the 4.5'' suicks with success? I get such satisfaction out of catching fish with lures that not only were designed decades ago, but also look like it. I sure don't read much about people using them, but would love to have an excuse to pick up a new lure wink

My dad used them to catch smallies on Mille Lacs this spring on a day when we would get a follow every 5 or so casts on just about any lure and only about 1 in 10 of those fish would actually strike.

I had never seen them that small before (around 5") but he pulled one out and it caught fish that day.

I got my start with jerks <insert joke here> on the shorties (back when a mepps 5 was considered a big lure). Used to cruch pike on them in the Spring. You have to more or less twitch them with today's rods and slow down your retrieve. I mainly still throw the Mags or an occasional 7" thriller on lazy days but the 4.5" models are great for super light tackle.

If you only had $10 to spend on one lure I would pick the 7" for it's utility. I've pulled in nice muskies, countless pike, and both flavors of bass. It's hard to go wrong.

I usually stroll down memory lane once or twice a year and toss a few around as I still have a few of them left. Fav colors are the sucker (Rew/White), perch, and silver.

Toss over some rock reefs this time of year on Mille Lacs and have a blast with Smallies.
