Buff Headgear?

Moose-Hunter

Question

You've probably seen'em on guys fishing the keys or any other southern flat in the bright sunshine... But what about for us northerners?

In case you haven't, the "buff" is a multifunction head piece that (for my application) literally hides your face and neck from the sun. Like a neck gaiter for cold weather, this is made of a very breathable fabric that protects you from the high UV exposure we all take when fishing.

You most likely think I'm craked by now, but I'm really interested in trying some. They ain't cheap but bad sunburn on my fair scandinavian skin isn't a piece of cake.

Have you ever heard of them? Have you ever tried them? Am I just crazy and should just use a 5 million sun screen?

I've seen a few guys wearing them while out fly fishing. People seem to really like them, especially if you have fair skin. The other thing is that it will keep bugs off your face and neck. I've thought about picking one up solely for the purpose of keeping bugs out of my ears and nose.

I wear one. It is the best $23 I've spent all year. 95% UV resistant and has skin cooling technology. It does help keep bugs away and I also pull it over my hat when driving the boat fast so I don't lose my headwear. A couple guys I fish with also wear them. We get a lot of funny looks when we wear them ninja style. Got mine at Thorne Bros.
