2001 Mercury Villager Brake Rotors

Recommended Posts

I need to replace the brake rotors on my wife's 2001 Mercury Villager. Pulled the wheel off last night and couldn't figure out how to remove the rotor. I just couldn't budge it! Does anyone know how to remove the rotor? Is it pressed on, or am I just dealing with rust? Didn't want to mess anything up!

Thanks!

There should be two threaded holes in the rotor. Use two 8 x 1.25 bolts. Thread them into the holes and crank down on them. They will help press the old rotor off of the hub. You may still have to give it a couple of whacks from the back side to get it to break free.

I am not sure, I don't have the new fancy computer programs like you guys got to look that stuff up. I just know I take mine off as soon as I do a first rotor change on my cars. Too many times i've had them rust and become a pita to get out.

Speaking of discarding those. Don't do that on a ford freestyle. We get them in a lot for a clunk when stepping on the brake after moving forward or backward after replacing the brakes/rotors. A lot of aftermarket rotors do not have the holes for the three screws. A set of premium rotors with screws installed and the noise goes away.
