Dylan33
So I just started experimenting with the drop shot this year, and love it. I wasn't sure what to expect, or what gear to ue so I was using an old rod of mine that didn't get used much anymore. 6' Medium action spinning spooled with 8 pound flouro. This weekend, the rod snapped in half on a hookset. No biggie since it was on old rod, and I am actually kind of excited because it gives me a "reason" to justify to the wife that I need a new rod and reel. I know there are some drop shot enthusiasts in here, and was looking for some input. So, here is the question; Does anyone have any recomendations for a good drop shot rod at a decent price? And what are your ideas on length and action? I am on a budget. I'd like to stay between $100-$150. I'll probably hold of on any purchase until after season sales. Thanks
Cecil
I would look hard at the Shimano Cumara 7-1 Medium. Great drop shot rod and is on sale right now almost everywhere.
bASS_BLASTER
I have 2, 7' 1" medium, extra fast action. Love it! Lots of rods are on sale. The pickings are getting thin.
Deitz Dittrich
I too have the drop shot rod cecil listed.. One of my fave.. makes a killer jig worm rod as well.. as many know I somewhat recently started to drop shot with a baitcaster. Really liking that too.. I had Thorne Brothers make a custom one, as I was really picky to action and power.. but i have a Shimano Crucial 7' Drop Shot as well.
kt
For my clean bottom dropshot rod i use a 6'10" (i believe) ML shimano crucial ( 6-8 lb flourocarbon). (mostly for smallies) That rod might be a little underpowered but i absolutely love it. A smallie in the 2-4 lb range will absolutely wear you out with that set-up, it's a complete riot. I also have a 6'9" loomis bronze back with medium power that i have used as well and it is probably a better fit for dropshotting, but i just love that crucial too much to switch. A lot of times I will have both of them rigged up and use the loomis for weedlines and the crucial for hard bottom areas.
HellaBass
For $150 I use the Dobyns 702 SF Savvy Series, love it!
