losing depth when weeds are close to top

Toba

Recommended Posts

I have an Eagle 642c IGPS. the depth freezes when drifting, using big motor, or trolling motor over water where weeds are close to top usually 14 feet of water or less when it happens. I have been changing the ducer angle but it did not fix the issue.

I only have one unit in the boat. I had turned down the sensitivity from 100 to about 80%. Could it be an update that I need. That is one thing I have not done with this unit since I bought it two years ago. Any ideas of how to fix this issue are welcomed. thanks

We have two 642s. Both do the same. Latest update is 1.6 and now they don't support it anymore. 1.6 stinks. If you can get back to 1.3 it is better but then you don't have as much zoom on Nav and Lakemaster maps.

Does the same with 4 different x-ducers on on three of our boats (uses the same x-ducers as the 480's, so we have swapped and tried everything. Their support is mot much support, other than telling us we can get $100 off of a new unit... heh.

This is one reason next locators for us will be h-birds most likely. We also have one of the 642's that will not lock on sats anymore, and even with their tech support (tried to help out, but could not find solution, and told us they won't fix it even for $, they just want us to upgrade...) we can't get the GPS to work anymore.

Good luck with yours, but I would not hold my breath for a "fix" or work around, but I will keep watching this thread and hope you find one for us both smile

I have a Lowrance 332c and the thing is the biggest POS. The GPS constantly loses its location and WAAS is constantly lost and acquired. The sonar rarely picks up depth and when it does it reads for about 10 seconds and then the depth number flashes and won't update. Even when it is reading depth it displays a kind of scattered bottom so I can't tell if it's soft or hard bottom. I bought a new Optima starter battery and updated all the software on the unit so I know those aren't the issues. Next step is a new transducer I guess, but that won't fix the GPS problem. Wish I had an extra grand to buy a new H-bird.
