corn/honey Bait?

Recommended Posts

I got a area 45 surplus license today and now have to come up with some bait. This will be my first time bear hunting so I really don't know what works best. I know about most of the common baits to use but it all comes down to what I can access. I am a farmer so I have access to corn. I was wondering if anyone has tried using corn and honey or syrup together. Where I am hunting it is next to corn fields, so it would be a common food for them and they can't drag it off. I also have access to sweet corn too. Is this a bad choice? Any advice from the experts. I know there are many bears in the area(lots of trail cam pics) just a matter of getting them to the bait.

Bouy u could just set up on the feild edge an ambush a bear as it enter the cornfeild, a good time to do this is as the corn is in the milky stage, if you have bear going into a korn feild it'd be hard to get them to a bait site with corn as the main bait. ive gotten a bear out a corn feild by suppling sweets an goodies for a dessert. the bear would eat its fill of corn then cross the river a feww hundred yards an top of its tummy with the sweet stuff. If ya use corn ya might wanna try mollassas or fryer grease, honey is really good too, oats honey molassas corn mixture is a good one. but your competing grains angaints grains might be tough to do. Good luck.

Been thinking about this, im no expert, but I would really put out something besides corn since you hunt by a corn feild. If thats all you have access to then try an mix it with oats an molassass like i mentioned add some honey if its affordable. some liquid smoke. a little water an let it ferment. All so as they get in the corn feild walk around an locate where they enter the feild to feed. an set up an ambush. Ohters will chime in on this too. Beef trimings work great from a butcher shop but keep them fresh sprinkle some liquid smoke on them to.
