Missing/Stuttering

Recommended Posts

My wifes 2003 Dodge Stratus has a slight miss. We bought it like this figuring it was gonna be plugs and wires. Well I replaced the plugs, wires, and coil packs and it's still the same. I know the timing belt is new as well. The miss is a bit more noticeable while the AC is on. It idles GREAT...

Any ideas?

Thanks

Is the check engine light on or flashing. I'm betting it is not and what you are feeling is a characteristic of the vehicle. meaning no matter what you do that feeling will always be there.

I have a spill free funnel that I use to fill cooling systems after a repair. It's always fun on these to watch all the fun designs the coolant makes in the funnel as the engine vibrates.

i do too, i have a 3.5 that seems to miss with the ac on. Especially if you replaced the coil packs, wires and plugs, i would not worry too much about it. heck my hemi has a miss at idle that is normal according to the dealer.

No check engine lights on. There is a noticeable miss though. If I understand it, you think it's just a characteristic of the motor?

Without seeing it myself and based on the several thousand that I have seen over the years they always seem to run a little ruff.

There are a few things you can check. Compression to make sure all the cylinders are equal, injector balance (done with an injector tester) to make sure none of the injectors are plugged, and if you bought it used the last resort would be to pull the oil pan and see if the balancer chain is still in tacked.

If there is no noticeable engine performance issue under acceleration than there is probably not a misfire.
