Minnkota not holding charge

mascad

Question

I have a 2005 Minnkota Co-Pilot that will only hold a charge for about 2 hours tops. I have had the battery tested (load tested too) and the whole motor itself tested. Anyone have any ideas?? Thanks!!

A CoPilot is an accessory for steering, not a motor.

The amp draw of the motor will depend on which motor you have. The amp draw of the motor can be tested and compared to the specs of that model. If it is drawing more than it is supposed to then something is wrong with the motor. If it is within specs, then perhaps your charger or battery is faulty (or your battery is weak or too small).

I brought the motor to a Minn Kota service shop, I assume they would have pulled the prop off, but I'll check. This is the second battery it has done this with so I'm guessing something in the wiring?? Thanks.

Depending on the battery and speed, hours could be all the battery is capable of.

Need more details.

What type battery(deep cycle, marine starting or dual purpose) and what size is it?

What speed are your running the motor at?

What charger are you using, be very specific.
