I was just wondering what kinda sucker this is. We got a bunch last weekend up on the Rainy River, and they were by far the biggest i've ever seen. They ranged from 4lbs to 6lbs 14oz. I've speared hundreds if not thousands of suckers and the biggest I've seen is maybe 3lbs.

Silver Redhorse. One of the larger sucker species found in the state, potentially topping out around 12 or so pounds. I would say that most of the Silvers I catch are 2-4lbs, so you were catching some nice ones.

Larger sucker species found in MN would be all 3 Buffalo (Smallmouth, Bigmouth, Black) as well as Greater Redhorse, River Redhorse, and Blue Sucker (all three of which are uncommon to rare)

That would make some WICKED cut bait for cattin' - nice catch! Nice lakers as well - I'd love to get up there during the spring run and chase those 60 inchers!!!

Nick,

I was thinking the same thing. that fish would make alot of cut bait for cattin'.
