to many good spots on my GPS where to start.

Recommended Posts

hi guys. I'm looking for some helpful advice on lake miltona. I'm taking a newbie out on a five day trip and he picked lake miltona to fish due to it being close south Dakota where he works. I have looked over my GPS and maps and what I see is 50 percent of the lake looks like a good spot. I'm getting out there a day early and marking spots before we start to fish. Where do I start. Do I mark everything or do I focus all my time on certain spots or structure. And is it a jerk bait lake or a bucktail bite. Trip dates August 3-7th. I would love some help. Thanks guys and good luck in August.

I fished the lake 3 times last year and we actually boated fish all 3 times. One trolling, one on a steep wind blown edge and one over a hump. Seen plenty of others too, I would say fish spots that look "fishy" for the conditions and you should be one fish. That lake does have some great looking structure when you look at your map/gps.....

Wow, I must be challenged. I think I've fished Miltona a dozen times at least since I started muskie fishing about a year ago and have yet to SEE a fish up there. Im starting to think its all a lie.. lol See fish everywhere else I go so I dont know...

It can be tough out there at times. Other days you'll see 10+ and catch one. Fish around the deeper cabbage this time of year and you should move/catch some fish. On the flats or shoreline breaks.

As for this year I didn't hardly see anything early in the year and heard tough reports like most lakes. So I haven't been out there since early season for this reason. I'll hopefully be back out there once the temps drop back to normal.

This lake is much bigger then Fox ;)and clearer smile I would just find a good spot and work your way around from there......the more time spent flying around the lake equals more time with lines out of the water and Miltona is a ton of water. Find the Thermocline in the deeper water and get your baits down to it. PS I have gotten a couple follows on my Raiser set but no takers yet.....have fun up there
