fall turnover

I'm new to late season fishing. What does it mean when the lakes "turn over" as far as locating Walleyes and their habits? I assume the thermocline dissipates and shallower water can be more productive again but I'm only guessing. Do Walleyes tend to school more after this happens or do they scatter throughout the water column? We're heading up to Kab/Nam in 2 weeks and need a little late season education before going. I've always held a Browning in my hand at this time of year rather than rod/reel.

Fall turnover is exactly what you think, the thermoclime dissapates and the upper and lower layers of water mix togater. This allows the fish to be anywhere. #1 Is to upsize your baits. Fish this time of year are putting the feed bag on to prepare for egg production. #2 Look everywhere. Fall walleyes don't follow rules.
Generally on oligotrophic lakes, the whitefish will be near steep drop offs. Look for these on the graph. Once you find them the 'eyes won't be too far away.
Good luck and have fun!
