I put a Humminbird 596c HD DI in the boat this year and love it. It doesn't have GPS on it, but I took the $$ saved from the 596ci model and purchased a Garmin nuvi on sale and downloaded the Lakemaster maps to that instead. All said, I have a nice sonar/down imaging unit in the boat, and a GPS with Lakemaster that I can use year round for right around your $800 limit.

I recommend a humminbird unit.

units with GPS and DI

597ci HD DI $649.99

788ci HD DI $799.99

units with just GPS

597ci HD $569.99

788ci HD $699.99

units without GPS or DI

596c HD $449.99

778c HD $549.99

if you would be willing to go with a $1100 cap instead of $800 I would recommend a side imaging unit :

798ci HD SI $1049.99

shop around and you may be able to get better prices (these are cabela's prices based on their catalog).

I personally run a 597ci HD DI but am planning to upgrade to the 798ci HD SI next year(april 2012)

+1. What he said. I also run a 597 ci DI combo. If/when I upgrade, I'll probably go to the larger screen 898 or 1198. Several options, but you need to determine if you want down imaging and/or GPS.
