Fish Keeping Boxes

Does anyone know where you can buy the boxes that hook on to the dock to keep fish alive in? I've seen quite a few around this spring and would like to get one for my dad so the grandkids can pile their sunnies in there and not a fish basket where they die in an hour. Thanks for your help!

Try Menards - get some 1/2 inch hardware cloth and some 2 x 2's. Spend some time making it with the kid and have some fun.

I believe you can find large fish keepers made of netting at most bait shops or big box outdoor stores. You might also try Christiansen Nets.

Why would the fish die in a fish basket? Is it not in the water?

If you make your own basket use PVC pipe instead of wood for the frame. It will last for ever and never come apart. After you make the frame just use wire to attach hardware cloth and you will have a nice basket.

I copied my good friend and took out the drum of a broken washing machine. Made a lid for it and covered the bottom. It's perfect because of the holes in the sides and enough weight so it hardly moves. All you need is to go to an appliance store that has broken washers and ask nicely.

Thanks for the ideas! To answer the fish dying in a basket, northerns don't take well being curled up in a fish basket for a few hours. Just wanted a way to keep fish alive and well while the grandkids catch their limit for grandpa and dad to clean:)
