Mono Fishing Line Heat Degration Times & Temps

Howdy,

Been storing rods & reels in my covered boat in the Sun and it was at least 140+ under the cover today. Going to strip all of it off and put on new.

So, how long & what temp range does it take to cause degration of Mono line...??

I don't know, but once in a while I do a line strength test with the fish weight scale. If my 10# line is breaking at 8#, then I replace line.

Sunlight is tough on mono, heat can be as well. How it effects it under a cover...good question. You may wish to pose that to Stren or Berkley and see what they toss back at you.

You might find some info on there web site concerning storage range +/- parameters.

I put line on a kids rod one time and I noticed he put it in the trunk of his cadi and headed out he came back a while later and the line had basically defragmented from itself, never seen anything like that, he was upset and I showed him the spool I took it off and that was fine, he said it was only 8 minutes from shop to his house when I told him I noticed that he place it in his trunk, so I say under 8 minutes.....
