Bait or lure of choice for opener

Recommended Posts

Jim,
The position of the eye does make a difference but for the most part I stick with the regular 90 degree setup. It has produced the most fish for me so that is what I stick with. I would have to say that I do have some of the other styles of jigs in my box but they are usually not used. As for what the other styles of jigs do, tackleman hit it right on the head. As to the cranks that I fish, i usually go with colors that match the forage base of the lake, perch colors, shinner colors, ect. I have even used red cranks with great success in places that there are a lot of crawdads.

No jigs here. I will be wading and casting a late 80s purple Rebel Blackstar crankbait. Once that's worn out, I will switch to RAPala long cast minnows. Then I will use some RAPala shallow fat raps. Then I will go to bed, get up and do it again!!!

3days and counting!!!

I'll be fishing (1)crankbaits, (2)jig's, and (3)live bait rig.
Fishing shallow at night and little deeper during the day.
For Crankbaits I'll probably use a rapala long-cast minnow or tail-dancer, cotton cordel shad, and a storm thunderstick.
For jigs definatly a fireball jig w/minnow or leech.
And for live bait rig use red hooks with a leech, worm, or minnow.
Hopefully I can catch some walleyes on a crankbait b/c that is always fun.
Good Luck on opener.

Hey Tackleman -

Jim does seem excited. At least you only have to answer his questions. He's going to be in my boat all weekend!

And if he out fishes me, I'm going to have to put up with serious trash talking!

Cheers from Fargo, and good fishing to all!
