2011 WI Musky Fishing

Recommended Posts

Boated a 37" last Sunday in rusk county. Forgot my net at home and was fishing with newbie so I had him held the rod when I hand landed the Muskie, I think this is the last time I will ever forgot the net. Even tho it's small but it had to be one of beautiful Muskie I ever boated, really dark greenish fish.

Not a big one but after a trip to Potato Sunday (Saturday was spent fixing power steering frown ), I'm on the board this year. Bigger than my first fish last year though, hopefully they all turn out that way.

Anyone have any updates? I struck out for August (for the 4th consecutive year). Lost a couple on cranks in deep water outside weeds, but that's all I had for the month. Year to date I only have the 2 in the boat, 3 fish lost, 2 short strikes, and most surprisingly 0 followers. Oh well, September has always been a month that's treated me well.

I saw some action on topwaters last weekend, but nothing found the hooks. Won't be out this weekend, but hopefully by the weekend after cooler water has triggered a bite. Pike activity has been very good lately, so I figure the muskies can't be too far behind.

I'll have to double check the numbers but our tourney yielded around 90 fish for 250 anglers. All I could manage was a 30" but my partner got a 47", ended up being second biggest fish of the tourney behind a 49.75".

I might get out a few more times this year, otherwise its time to break out the camo.

Looks like the action is starting to pick up. Had several follows casting yesterday. Noted that contrary to other reports I've seen, these fish seemed to be coming up from deep water as opposed to out of the weeds. Switched to trolling and caught a 35" fish. Probably could have done better had I made the change earlier. Talked to another guy at the landing who also got a few short fish.
