pkv
I was over on Pine Creek in Maiden Rock, WI this past weekend. Mostly brookies -- thousands of them on this small stretch of water. Amazingly, caught this 12 inch brown. Jigged a Berkley's red worm in front of me not expecting anything to take, when from under a rock, this buddy swam out and snatched the worm! What an amazing attack, wish I caught it on camera. During our last outing on Pine Creek, the original owner of the land stopped by and chatted with us. He said the DNR shocked and collected most the browns on the stream. Not sure when -- would be great if anyone can offer more information. so haaad
Yes, there are still a few browns in there. That's a decent fish for Pine.
Scudly
pkv did you keep that brown? DNR is trying to keep browns out however what happens is when there are floods browns out of the Rush (and likely other brown trout streams) get flushed out into the Mississippi. Some of these trout float down into Maiden Rock and find Pine Creek. The section at AA I feel is a great place to introduce somebody to fly fishing. Narrow water however wide open field for easy casts and the brookies are not very picky on the fly or even your presentation. So beautiful however small. It's a neat little crick. Check out the Maiden Rock Winery just up the hill too. Pretty good cider beers.
pkv
The brown made the 12in regulation mark, so I kept it. The first time I was there, I caught another 12in fish, but it was a northern pike -- right from under the bridge. I guess can't assume it's 100% brookies even though it may seem so. Yes, I agree, it's a great stretch of water for casting and practice!
