1967 Evinrude final night?

BlindSqrl

Question

Was out fishing this evening, and went to pull start ol faithful and the chord would not recoil. So I had to troll back. I'm not the greatest with motors, but I am always willing to try if it isn't a major fix. Or if anybody could point me in the direction of a person trying to sell a 15-25 hp at a reasonable price, that would be great.

Thank you

I would say take it in. It will be much cheaper (as was already stated) to get it fixed than to replace the motor.

FYI My brother repaired one like what is on yours and had one heck of a time with it.

Its not a hard fix. I've done it on the lake with a pair of pliars, a screwdriver and a crescent wrench. Sounds like your recoil spring either broke or came loose. Simply remove the cover, remove the rope assembly and you will see where the spring is located. Maybe you need a new one, but it isn't that hard to do. The fun part is getting tension on the spring as you replace the recoil onto the motor, but a couple of misfires, a few choice swear words, and you'll be in business.

Thanks for all the feedback. I tried telling the wife I should just go get a new boat and motor, but that didn't fly. I ended up dropping the motor off after reading that it could be really frustrating.
