Big hammer swimbaits

Recommended Posts

Anyone know what the best colors to use for these types of swimbaits? They have a ton of colors and I plan on sticking with a five inch bait but im completely confused with what colors to work with in the Big hammer line. any help would be great!

The Hammers are very good swim baits. I use the 4" on up the the big baby's for walleye. Smaller in the spring and larger into late summer and then I go big....in the fall.

Darter style head jigs do best with them. Flat bhack jigs and add a drop of Fishing Super Glue to the shank when rigging them. They are very durable baits in comparison to most of the swim shads we see in stores today.

The Electric Chicken pattern is a hot one. wink

In semi dingy water I have had some very good luck with white and dark waters the chart is good. When its sunny I like the natural colors like smelt but you have to experiment. Heck colors can change with just a bit of clowd cover or wind.

I often throw weedless paddetail swimbaits (hook slot, weighted EWG hook style) for bass and actually pick up more pike than bass! I feel I can guarantee that if pike are around your walleye fishing area and you fish those big hammer swimbaits, you'll get some bonus pike.

What techniques do people who use these swim baits utilize? I just stocked up on berkley power bait shad swim baits and gave them a try last week with no luck. Basically I was just tossing them, reel in for about 10 foot, pause, and reel in. Any insight on technique would be greatly appreciated.
