Super Line Question

Recommended Posts

Need some advise. I picked up some New line to try out, I think its 832 suffix? I will be using it on my jigging pole, its 6lb 2lb diameter. The water I fish is stained, ok heres the question I was going to tie directly to the jig no leader, Is this what everyone else does? thanks for your time.

What do you superline veterans use for knots? I always use the Trilene knot with mono, but I've been reading that lots of people use a palomar with superline.

Thoughts? Experiences? Advice?

I've had improved clinch knots pull out. I switched to the Palomar and haven't had a problem since (with super line).

If you want to add a leader, I would recommend any back to back knot like a Uni-Uni for connecting the leader material to the super line. I've tried knots like the Albright knot and had problems with the small diameter super line cutting through the mono/fluoro.

I use Uni to Uni to connect Fluoro to Braid. And I use Palomar to connect to terminal tackle.

What he said.

I'd tie on a flouro leader to start the day. May not be needed but isn't going to hurt anything as long as you have a good uni to uni knot.

Tie direct, the Palomar know is good choice.

My rule for fluorocarbon leaders is this. The longer a fish has to stare down a bait, the more likely a fluorocarbon leader may be beneficial.

If your jig, or crank, or spinner is on the move a fish has very little time to stare at anything and ponder if it's Bogus or not, they need to react now.

So if your slip bobber fishing or Lindy Rigging, then low vis may be benificial...not so much when casting jigs or cranks.

I tie a fluoro leader on my super lines when I jig fish. May not be as big a deal in stained. I plan to pick up 832 this year too.

You will really like that Suffix 832. I ran it last winter and now this spring and Im switching over most of my rods to it. Very smooth and consistant and casts very well. Spendy but I think its worth it.

I tie direct in the waters we have around here but in clear waters I run a 2 or 3' "shocker" leader of floro tied with back to back uni knots.

    • My kid was eating in Beverly Hills and ran into this guy. Talked to him a bit and wished him luck in the game tonight.
    • 🤔as a recovering machinist!🤣🤣that must make me a recovering welder!
    • As a recovering machinist, I can appreciate that.  If the spec is 0.001 - 0.0015, then clearly the correct measurement is 0.00125, duh…
    • I just figured that it is easy enough to just get a 3 bank so when the boat is not in use I can keep all 3 batteries charged. I have not bough a charger yet, maybe I will give it some more thought. Edit: After thinking this over, with the size, weight, and heat output of the charger (as well as the cost) I think it makes sense to just buy a 2 bank charger, I have a smaller charger i can use on the starting battery when the boat is sitting at home. Forgive me, for i am a retired engineer and I have to obsess over everything...
    • Congrats on the motor!  I think you’ll like it.   I can’t say much on the charger location but I’ve seen them under the lid in back compartments and under center rod lockers.  160 degrees is more than I expected to hear.   Curious why you’re opting for a 3 bank charger with a 24V trolling motor.  Unless you don’t feel you be running you big motor enough to keep that battery up as well?
    • I did buy an Minnkota Ulterra, thanks for the recommendations. I had a bunch of Cabela"s bucks saved up, which helped. Now i need to get an onboard battery charger. Where do you guys mount these things in your boat? The manufacturer I am looking at {Noco genius) says tht their 3-bank charger will run at 160 degrees, seems like a lot of heat in an enclosed compartment? Thanks for any input on this.
    • You're very lucky a troop of Sea Monkey's didn't carry you away.
    • Wasn't terrible at a state park beach. Antelope island maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it as a beach destination tho.  Figured I was there, I'm getting in it.
