We used to fish there untill last year and decided to try a new lake. The lake trout fishing was really good, even in late July and Aug. You had to fish deeper for them but we were still able to catch many lakers. We found some walleyes earlier in the year when the water was colder in the small bays.

If you have the Canadian chip for your gps or graph, Sturgeon in on it and makes it a lot easier to find the perfect depth where the lakers will be that time of the year. Good luck.

We got a good map at Sturgeon Lake Lodge when we were there. Go to their web site and see if you can get a map from them. The site is Sturgeonlakelodge.com. You will go right past them when you go to the lake. Good luck.

I just returned from Savant Lake, just north of Sturgeon Lake. Lots of walleyes in 5-10 feet there up to 26" were caught. Our group focused on pike there. Shallow also and feeding heavily while being sluggish after the spawn. Between 4 of us we landed 8 fish 34-39" and a 43" off the dock and a 44.5" pig. August has been great there for lakers. Last year we got tons of 10-15 lb fish and Savant (89000 acres) also holds world class trout. Have a good trip wherever you go!

It is a great lake trout lake. If you are bringing your own boats there are also several top walleye lakes in easy driving distance.

Thanks - we are bringing our own boat and plan to be pretty flexible in what lakes we hit.
