Minnkota power drive problems

Slimdart

Question

I have a minnkota power drive 70 bow mount that when I took my boat out of storage the prop would not spin as fast as it did last summer. I took the boat out on the water and the trolling motor would hardly move my boat at full power. I know the batteries are charged and in good conditions. The battery indicator lights on the trolling motor read full power. after 5 minutes of running the motor the prop would not turn. the motor would just click. Any ideas of what the problem my be.

I think you have a bad battery or two. You need to get them load tested to know for sure. This is not the same thing as checking voltage --- a battery can show 12+ volts but not have any amps behind. A load test will let you know for sure but what you have going on is a classic symptom of bad batteries.

+2 I've had two batteries in the last 6 years with a bad cell, which means they're toast.
