itchmesir
I figure if the lure looks clean.. and well kept.. no rust.. hooks aren't bent up.. paint is good(minimal scratching.. none is better).. always make sure to carefully look for cracks too... i guess a $3 Rap would be good then.. what are they these days? $6-10? Judge Smails
Having been there before, don't buy something you don't think you'll use regardless of how good of a deal it is. I've made the big bargain purchase before and still have about 20-40 raps I'll probably never use. Sure 20% of retail sounded like a great deal, but 80% savings on something that is worthless to you isn't a very good deal.
TigerBlood
Smails nailed it. Be careful of impulse buying just because it seems like a good deal or you'll have boxes of tackle you never use (like me - HA!). But to answer your question, anything used should certainly be 50 cents on the dollar or lower IMO. Most of the stuff you'll find at garage sales will probably be shad raps or count downs which sell for like $6-$8 new. So yeah, $3/each or lower would be what I consider a decent deal assuming you will use them. One suggestion if you are looking to cut costs long term. Since I switched to Power Pro line, I hardly ever lose lures anymore to snags or bite offs. If you haven't tried them yet, check out some of the braided lines out there. mainbutter
+1 with what Smails said. With how much I spend on gas alone for the fishing season, frankly I'm fine with spending up to $13 a lure, and sometimes more. Why have a box of 40 $5 lures when I'm really only using 2-4? I'm happy spending more per lure, but purchasing fewer in total.

Yeah I run rigs that are pretty much guaranteed never to fail unless I REALLY try to break a snag, and even then I often bend hooks out of the snag before the main line or leader fails. I feel much better about using lures that aren't $2 throwaways when I have a little bit of insurance.
dan z
If I can find raps/jerks for less than $4 I feel its a good deal. I do have some muskie lures that I would like to get rid of but I would never get the money out of them that they are worth.
BigSling
As long as the lures are in good shape, nothing wrong with saving a few bucks and buying previously owned. I often re-sell those "impulse purchases" (things that caught my eye in the store but never get used) online to cover some of the cost of new toys that I'll hopefully get more use out of.
