folding utility trailer

MNice

Question

We moved to a new house and I do not have room for outdoor storage, specifically, my 5x8 utility trailer. Right now its in the garage, sideways in front of the 2 cars, leaving little room for garage activities. I am aware of the little 4x8 folding trailers that northern sells and my question is, anybody have first hand knowledge of these?? They look pretty cheesy, but it has the capacity that I would need, and the folding storage would be great.

comments are welcome...

thanks, Jeff

I dont have any first hand knowledge of the folding trailer, but....

Are your ceilings open or tall enough to just lift the 5x8 up against the wall and strap it there? (lifting the tongue up towards the roof until the whole trailer is vertical) I've thought about doing this myself, but never have.

What about putting a hook into the wall and some sort of base that will hold the trailer upright, tongue in the air? If it will fit and be safe, you get to keep your larger (probably sturdier) trailer, and have more free space in the garage.

standing it up won't work. it's about 12', I have long tongue with an aluminum tool box, garage ceiling is about 10'6", plus it's heavy, I would have to live next to the hulk laugh

I have tipped my 6x8 on the side (not lengthwise) and it is steel sno-mo trailer and I can do it myself, but easier with a helper. It would only be 5' "tall" in your case, but probably more a hassle.

If that doesn't work, my old roommate had(has?) the folding trailer from Northern and used it quite a bit, and it worked for his light usage. I didn't even know he had a trailer for the first few weeks I parked my bike in his garage, I guess I never looked wink so it must not have taken up to much space! I would not be afraid to use one, as long as withing capacity for you! Good luck.

I have one of those trailers. For the most part it isn't a bad little trailer. A friend of mine had two of them for a move he did, so I purchased one of them. I changed out the 8" tires for 12" tires and it pulls a lot more level behind the truck. When I went to pick it up he had it all folded up in the garage and it didn't take up much space. The only problem I would forsee with it is extra length of wire where the trailer bends. This could easily be fixed with bullet connectors or something. It hauled around my snowmobile that I purchased this past winter and did a nice job.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Steve

My brother bought a folding trailer about 5 years ago. I bought it from him 3 years ago (8 years old). I would consider it a light duty utility trailer. Depends what you are going to haul on it if it will work.

I replaced the floor a year ago with 5/8" plywood. I haul my lawn tractor on it mainly but have used it to haul wood. I stacked the wood 3 high and it worked great. I have side rails on it that are about 2 feet high (2-1x6's with a foot space between boards). Works nice to fold up and roll it to a corner in the garage.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one as long as you aren't thinking about using it as a heavy hauler.
