Flood water shallow kitty action.

Got some shallow water Kitty Cork'n action in yesterday, and last night.

Man-O-Man was that fun! Been a long winter, way overdue for a kitty outing.

Kitty's are feeding up shallow on the flooded fields and grass flats up the trib's here in the Red River Basin.

Used sucker cuts and sour Goldeye cuts on 12" pole floats set at 3' to 5'.

There fat bellies look like volley balls, they are feeding big time. Cats ranging from 5# up to 17#. Seen many bigger cats wallowing in the shallows.

Kitty's are on the prowl!

Not sure of the temp up there? I'll check today. It is a lot warmer up in the trib's due to run off solar heated from on the dark shallow fields.

We will stay high for a long time yet and the opportunity to chase grazing kitty's on flood flats will be here well into late may, maybe even June.

Sun was out yesterday, and so was the chubby sumo cats.

Right up on top of flooded roads and in the ditch's and flooded trees just off the ditch. Cut sour sucker was the best bait of all.

Floats were again the best option and produced steady action in the late afternoon and at dusk. The cats are responding to the falling water levels and are falling back slowly closer to the Red.

Scouting with a set of binoculars is a smart way to find them. You see cats rolling, get the Cork's and Cut's out.

Ed - What was the water temp where you were catching those kitties?

The temp changes a lot during the day depending on the sun and wind. In the 50's and jumps up and down 4 - 5 deg in a short time on black fields that spill into the creeks.

Sun = Fun. Late day is often the best, and at dusk, then it dies off quickly.

But mid day and all afternoon is also a distinct possibility as they are not at all sunlight shy, they just want to warm up and chow down.
