Lowrance Mark-5X DSI Sonar

What I was told was that they are basically Eagle fishfinders that have just changed the name to Lowrance, but everything else is just the same. I was looking at the Elite 5 DSI w/GPS, but decided to hold off yet, since they won't accept any older SD cards for maps, they only take the tiny Micro SD cards, so I would also have to buy new chips.

More than likely, with anything new, your going to need new map chips anyway. The new chips run with SD/Micro SD adapters and work in both the HD's and the Elites....except for the HD enhanced mapping will not function in the Elites.

The new B&W and Color Elites are far more daylight friendly than any older units of that class were. They also have far more refined sonar capability's. So there is definitely an argument to be made for they are a true upgrade over any Legacy Eagle Unit in the class.

I think they are a good value in a sonar in that price range, especially with the new DI functionality.

Thanks for the replies fellas.

I am well aware this is only down scan(what I want).

It says it can be hooked up to a trolling motor.

I am sure I will have to do some monkey work to get it right.

DS should come in handy while verticle jigging for the eyes.(let's hope)

As I've said in other threads, when I want to look at what is under the boat I run the convention sonar/DI split screen. Both types of sounding have their shortcomings, so I feel being able to have both on display is an advantage.
