Lakemaster slow to load?

Whopper Stopper

Question

I bought a Humminbird 597 DI. This for the most part is a new offering from Humminbird. After reading a bunch of threads about the pros and cons of Lakemaster or Navionics, I picked up a Minnesota Lakemaster chip.

Shortly after buying it, I came across a thread talking about how slow the Lakemaster map loads in the Humminbird fish finders. People said Navionics were much faster. (I hate when I read stuff after already making a purchase). Has anyone had this experience with the Lakemaster- Humminbird combination?

Being my LM is still in the package I could still swap it for the Navionics if I had to.

Thanks for any tips or replies!

The lakemaster v.1 maps run very slow compared the Nav chips in both of my bird units. My 997 has a tough time keeping up at many zoom levels while on plane. Platinum Nav chips run slower too, however not as slow as the Lakemaster maps.

I'm not sure how much better the 898, 998 and 1198 run the maps. I know the 1197 and the 798 both run them significantly better than a 997, still slower than the Nav maps but very use-able.

Another downside of the humminbird Lakemaster product is that they have significantly less zoom level options as compared to lowrance Lakemaster products.

It is an internal processor speed issue, not a map issue. The farther up the Hummer model ladder you do, the faster the mapping redraw speed will be with the larger capacity processor.

When your zooming in and out and back in again, at mid range levels, you will notice the processor lag time the most. Once in a zoom range closer it will smooth out more but not draw as quickly as a 800 or 900 series Hummer would.
