Kept me away, though i was regretting it at 7 am on Sunday and after having checked the duluth cams. Looked quiet and cloudy....

It was relatively busy Sunday down near Preston/Lanesboro. I ended up having a fairly slow day, while picking off only about a dozen fish from 10-5pm.

I fished on the vermillion Sunday, fly fishing with my smallie streamers. I realize that fly fishing probably doesn't land as many fish as a worm or a panther martin in that river, but it sure is fun! Hooked up with a large fish that just attacked my streamer but couldn't bring it to shore...so frustrating. My friend landed what we think to be a 17"er or maybe 18", didn't measure it. I took the picture from the opposite bank, so sorry, no close-up!

The opener was great times! my hands were numb in the morning, but I can't complain that much since I went out a couple times for winter catch and release! didnt take many pics. We (gf & I) caught about 6 fishes in the 12"-15" inch mark, these two were about 12-13", the rest were about 7-9. We got tired of taking the cam out so we stopped after a few pics, lol . All in all, braved the cold and had great times!

Beaver Creek Valley State Park was pretty much empty, only about 4-5 parties there, including a few brave souls in summer dome tents. Weather Friday nite and Saturday morning was nothing short of awful, but fishing was good all weekend. Plenty of slot fish, as usual, but did get a few eaters and tied into a few fish over 16". Great fishing all weekend more than made up for the lousy weather.

Only about 1/3 of the normal crowd in the Elba area. Fishing was good.

Not the best weather for the enjoyment part of it ... but the fish were biting. Had to stop in and get abused at Curt's tackle shop in Preston as usual. The smartfire was brilliant as usual too.

Hoping this weekend will make up for last.
