White Bass

Just curious if anybody eats white bass. I've heard that some people eat them, but I always heard growing up that they weren't very good.

Just curious...I catch a few on Lake Zumbro (by Rochester), but don't intend to ever eat them.

I've had white bass before. As long as you cut out the dark lateral line that you will find once you have cleaned them they taste just fine. The one I had was a larger one and had a tougher texture if I remeber correctly but tasted just fine to me. Give one a try, you have nothing to loose.

We kept a bunch of smaller ones from Devils Lake earlier this summer, crappie sized, half pound or some even a little under. They weren't walleyes definitely, but they were still quite good. We'd tried some out of Lake Oahe last year, after throwing a bunch back & found out they were pretty decent. They're definitely better than largemouth bass.

I kept some smaller ones out of pokegama last summer and I thought they were pretty good.

I eat alot of fish and I think I'am pretty discriminating when it comes to the various tastes...the little White Bass were good!
