870Express
Roommate is looking at getting a Drahthaar. Likes the versatility and coats. Any experience or recommendations out there with breeders in the surrounding state area? I've trained with the GWP folks but clueless to DDs and the breeding programs in the area. MNHuntress
Go to this HSOforum [Note from Admin: Please read forum rules before posting again. Thank You], this is the official DD HSOforum. I believe, before you can breed a DD they have to pass temperment tests and hunt tests, etc. Any available litter around the area is listed on the HSOforum, along with all scores for the dam or sire and awards. Now obviously you can breed a DD without this organization, but this represents the highest standards of the breed. A true DD pup or adult has their ear tatooed.I looked long and hard at the GWP's and the DD and the difference comes down to a few things. I think the DD's a bit more calmer and they track alittle bit better. Most of the DD's I looked at were bigger also. Females pushing 70-80 pounds. Plus the true DD's can be a bit more spendyier. The DD ppl put alot of focus on tracking. This is just my two cents after doing 1+ years of research while waiting for the right litter, plus I plan on doing hunt tests so I needed something more than the average bear.I ended up with a GWP that is half DD and half GWP. I'm starting on the track training right now so we'll see if her half DD carried over for the pup, mother is an excellent tracker.
fishattacker
If you google VDD-GNA you will get the official HSOforum. It will answer a log of questions. It also shows upcoming litters and gives the breeders name, number and HSOforum if they have one. I have a three year old male. He is about 70lbs. They are getting rather pricey. Right now it seems the going rate is $1000 to $1250.
