May be voltage spikes too, or the wiring? Breakers are always a good idea.

Any chance it's getting excess voltage, as in the voltage regulator or an on board charger not working properly?

The circuit breaker will protect the wiring and battery if you have a short.

Unplugging the motor is a good idea when your charging.

Bad connections and connections that go in and out are bad on the board.

Those 3 prong plugs are notorious for that and the cheap butt connectors I don't like.

Because the main board is embedded to waterproof it its pretty hard to tell which component on the board went bad and instead

of fixing it you'll need a new board.

thanks guys didnt know leaving it plugged in while charging the batteries could do something like that guess I'm going to have to start unplugging it when the batteries are charging.

Over the years I've serviced my Minnkotas plenty of times by myself but I've also brought the unit in to a authorized service center when I wasn't completely sure which board was bad.

I think that is what you need to do. You now have a spare board and chances are you'll need it sometime down the road. smile

As the trolling motor becomes older the parts are harder to find and the price of those parts goes up so all is not lost.

Yes I love my AP but history has proven it will let me down at some point.

Abut unplugging the power to the motor. There is no good reason to have power to it when your not using it.
