What are you putting in for food plots this year?

I'll be putting in some turnips, sugar beets and soybeans.

I'm also going to plant my squash and pumpkins out in one of my smaller plots, and what we don't use the deer can have. The deer have always left these plants alone until after the vines are dead, so I think they'll be ok.

I am going to try clover this year. 2 years ago I just planted corn and it worked good. Last year I didn't get anything planted until late august. I planted 100lbs of oats. That worked really good. Deer in their every night. I want to try clover with other stuff. My question is has anyone planted the cheap clover from feed store vs. expencive name brand stuff in the same year. I wanted to no if it is really worth the extra money. Also have been told by others white clover and red clover? What is other thoughts?

our farmer neighbor is doing his 45 acres in oats with clover under. not as a food plot, but the deer really enjoy the clover. I dont know what kind of clover though.

Since my little field is connected to that 45, I think Ill just do the big and beasty or monster mix from Frigid Forage in my field to kind of contrast the clover.

Simple.....

Corn...

Beans...

Clover...

A buffet for all wildlife!

Hey lovebiggillsdude,

Have you ever planted pumpkins for deer???

I have for years...... Good luck having anything for you. At least our deer in Ottertail County,,,, they get after pumpkins way too much. I give up. My pumpkin patch is going to corn this year. LOL.

Punkins are being planted at home so we can actually have some for the kids to pick.

I tried a brassica/turnip/rape mix last fall in two different parts of the state and had pretty poor results. I was really striving for a late-season draw but there must've been other preferred food sources around. They hit the clover much harder and that's probably what I'll be planting this year.

I haven't planted them outside of my garden yet, but normally I plant them at the far end with the squash. The deer haven't ever gotten into them until after the vines are dead. Kinda seems like a barrier that they don't want to cross.

They have a knack of getting into my beets the night before I plan on picking them though.

I'm pretty much dialed in to having food plots that are

- Clover

- Brassicas

- Mix of oats, wheat and rye

Going to be trying some round-up ready soybeans this year. Not sure what will happen but definately looking forward to giving it a shot!

Im trying something new this year, planting a corn/bean mix up on the opposite hill side of my stand, using the corn and beans as a funnel down to the edge of the swamp where I will have clover plus out to about 30 yds. Hopefully draw that big guy out of the big swamp!

Other than that, Im sticking to beans, corn, clover, and lush alfalfa. same as feeding cows! crazy
