Question

With this unit can insert a 2006 regular lake master chip (not humminbird version) just to swap waypoints onto my humminbird lakemaster chip? or can i copy waypoints from lakemaster chip to a plain SD card and insert that into HB? just trying to figure out a way to get the waypoints from my 2006 LM chip onto the new bird chip. any sugestions? or is this not possible? Would really like to copy my waypoints from handheld H2Oc to 898c SI.thanks.

The H20c is a Lowrance unit, right? If that's the case, you might be running into some data-format issues. You might try/ have to export the data from your Lowrance into something like an Excel or .txt file and then import that.

If you haven't already, register your unit with Humminbird, check for firmware updates and then download their PC software. That'll help with waypoint management on your new 'Bird.

You might also want to use Google to look for forums dedicated to Humminbird's equipment and side imaging. There is one in particular that you might find very helpful.

Im in no way and expert on GPS's but isnt the waypoint in the gps unit itself not on the lake map chip?

You are correct, Waypoints are totally seperate from the map data that is found on the SD Cards.

The Lowrance LM card will not work in the Humminbird at all for contour or waypoint data.

You can however do as you said above, put a plain SD card in the slot on the Lowrance unit, export you waypoints to the SD card. Now bring that SD card to your computer and get it hooked in one way or the other, there are many different ways a SD card can be hooked up to the computer to be read.

If you have registered at Humminbirds site, login to your account and download HumminbirdPC, that program should help you in converting your Lowrance waypoints into a format that the Humminbird will recognize, usually a .gpx format. Save those waypoints back to the SD card and insert that card into your Humminbird and folow the prompts on the unit.

It's pretty easy once you have the software needed to do the converting.

Other programs that you could use to convert this data is gpstrackmaker and easygps, you can find those free programs on the web pretty easy.

This will transfer your way points but sadly not any of your icon markings. I used them more than dropping way points when I had my Lowrance unit. That is one thing I miss with the 898 bird unit
