Need some visit ideas

Recommended Posts

Going to Denver and Breckenridge in August. Need some ideas of things to do. Going to a Rockies/Dodgers game, visiting Red Rock amphitheater, trying to hit the U.S. mint, probably scheduling some whitewater rafting, and have plans to visit some streams while waving a stick in waders. Any other ideas that I just have to do?

Summer time in Breck is so nice. About 65 degrees with sun is pretty much the norm. Breck is really trying to capture the summer tourism just because of the weather. Hiking is always a good time, head up to peak 8 and play in some snow. You can also pick up a cheap spinning rod and fish the Blue that runs right through Break. My favorite spot for fishing was just outside of Frisco heading to Copper Mtn, there is a little park on the left cant remember it but you cant miss it. I lived there for 3.5 years back in the late 90's.

Oh yeah for lunch head to Fatty's in Breck and get a pizza they are awesome.

Breck Brewery has good food and real good beer! My suggestion would be to get some maps and just drive around....some real spectacular country within 100 miles, lots of backroads, streams, lakes and wildlife. Go south over Hoosier Pass to Alma and into South Park, over Trout Creek pass and head to Buena Vista, Leadville, Cottonwood Pass....Colorado is big and the scenery never ends...have fun!

You have to try to fish Gill Trail on the South Platte above Deckers, CO. Easy sandy gravel bottom, big fish, beautiful scenery. If you go below Deckers, you'll run into tubers and it kind of spoils the fishing, lol.

Garden of the Gods - Estes Park - Rocky Mountain National Park - South Park - Blackhawk/Central City - Leadville - Buena Vista - Cottonwood Pass

You're also not that far from driving up to the top of Pikes Peak. Hour down I-25 and you're in Colorado Springs, with the peak not that far. I used to live at 10,000 feet in Victor, and could see the cars winking in the sun as they made their way up Pikes Peak.

Always wanted to do that. Never got the chance when I was there.

I also second Garden of the Gods. Mucho cool! Royal Gorge in Canon City is a good one, too, though that may be getting too far off the beaten Denver track.

Shotgun Willys

Diamond Cabaret

Mile High Saloon

Garden of the Gods-scenery/rock formations, but thats in Co Springs

Mt. Evans-highest rd in the US-just west of Denver

Blackhawk and Central City-Gambling towns just west of Denver

Lookout Mountain-Overlooks Denver, youll wanna do that at night

There are soooo many places....Estes Park, Rocky Mt Nat Park. Depends on how far you wanna go

Some of the biggest Deer Ive ever seen are inside the fence at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal by Commerce City. Since I left the area its been turned into a wildlife refuge. I understand they have a herd of buffalo now to

If you like Mexican food, eat at the Chilli Pepper. Its right by Mile High Stadium just off I 25. Great food and a beutiful view of the Denver Skyline-better at night.

Another neat restaraunt is Casa Bonita. Food is decent, not the Chilli Pepper but they have cliff divers you can watch while eating. It looks like an outdoor setting in there, kinda neat. Its on West Colfax in Lakewood.

Sterling Marine. Tell JW that Bruce from MN says hi.
