You can't use ethernet on the older units, there's not an ethernet port on them.

Interlink lets you share a GPS antenna and waypoints between 2 units --- there's not much else you can do with it. I haven't used Interlink in a boat, but from talking to a couple of the prostaff guys they were pretty frustrated by it (sounded like it wasn't too reliable but we didn't get into the details of that --- we spent more time talking about the new ethernet). Bottom line (imo) is that interlink is what it is, which is pretty limited and being phased out.

If you're just wanting to share waypoints between units, transferring them on an SD card might be the best way to go.
