I see jigglestick already posted this on the leech lake forum, but I thought it needed to be here too as a reminder.

Eurasian watermilfoil discovered in Leech Lake
Associated Press
July 21, 2004

WALKER, Minn. -- Eurasian watermilfoil has been discovered in Leech Lake.

Harlan Fierstine, the Department of Natural Resources fisheries supervisor in Walker, said crews found milfoil rooted on about six miles of the southern and western shores of the main basin of Leech Lake.

Preliminary tests are under way to determine the extent of the infestation and a strategy for treatment, he said.

Eurasian watermilfoil is a nonnative, aquatic plant that can form dense mats of vegetation and crowd out native plants, clog boat propellers and hamper recreation.

Boaters on Leech Lake are being urged to be thorough when removing plants on their boats, trailers and fishing equipment.

Eurasian watermilfoil has now been discovered in 146 lakes and seven rivers and streams in Minnesota.

Uhh... 146? I don't know where they got that number, but I know that it has to be a LOT more than that. Pretty much EVERY metro lake has milfoil in it, to some degree or another, some worse than others (like Crystal in Burnsville- which is just horrible)

Yep.....
watch a guy spend 20 minutes wiping off his boat, sweeping out the sand, snapping on the cover, make it all pretty again. All in the middle of the launch at rush hour. HEY ! Pull that thing out of the way will ya ! Then drive off with 9 pounds of weeds hanging from his **** trailer! Can't take 2 minutes to clean that up, though !!
