Down Deep
I am preparing to do some major renovations to a property that I own. As part of the initial renovation phase I am having all existing plumbing upgraded - (drains and water supply to the first floor.) The vent stack exits the basement about two feet above the basement floor. Currently the wash tubs, washing machine and drain tile water empty into a sump and are pumped upward. Because of new city code I have to separate the drain tile water from the gray water. The plumber that I have selected tells me that he recommends adding another sealed gray water sump below floor level. The cost of this is about $700 of his estimated cost. I proposed using a Saniflow pump which would save about $400. The plumber says that the in floor system is better and will operate for 25 years or more without any problems. Does anyone have any comments or advice regarding this issue? P.S. The plumber says he will install anything I want.
Surface Tension
I don't know about the longevity of the Saniflow or if the pump is replaceable/serviceable. Don't know if would pass city code either. If this is in a utility room it wouldn't bother me that much to see it but these are commonly as a solution when adding a basin isn't an option or as a quick fix. Another option is a direct mount pump on the laundry tub. One downside there is no alarm if the pump should fail and don't know about codes.
