bobbymalone
my dad uses them down south. He drops a jig and a minnow down into spots with lots of stumps or other snags. He's always telling me I need to get one. I think his is 10-11'
Get'n Jiggy
I've done some fishing in the south, long rods are pretty much anesscesity when fishing wood or cypress stumps. Up here they aren'tneeded as much, although I'm sure one would work well for jigging in rushes or dipping in heavy cover. You have to make sure you are clear of trees or limbs when setting the hook, I had problems retraining myself to sweep the rod to the side when in the brush. scott b
I use a 9 footer with a Pflueger Arbor 4000 series and 4# test. A long rod gives you greater casting distance. So does a wide large reel. I can cast farther than anybody around me at any time. Kinda overkill because I cant see my bobber allot of the times. When paired with live bait you don't have to cast as hard to reach the same distance as say a six footer W/out live bait.
