Tires for a Tahoe

Recommended Posts

The Michelin LTX series and the Bridgestone Desert Duelers series are the two tires I've had the most success with over the years. premium price, especially in that size, but well worth the cost.

Those size tires are so expensive, couldnt talk the wife out those. As soon as she saw them she just had to have them. The guy at Sams said they would come in under a 1,000, would discount tire beat their price?

I have a feeling they would be about 1000 for the LTX. they list at 256, but then there's a couple extra fees, but then 70 rebate, plus you can normally talk them down a little bit.

I'd look at the BFG Long trail TA. I have them on one vehicle and have been very impressed. They list at 184 at Discount, plus 50 rebate. (for that size)

And I always dicker on tires and they always knock some $$$ off.

If those Michelin are the ones Ford put on my Explorer to replace the Firestones it came with they are great. Mine have at least 70k on them and could be more like 80+ since the recall was in 2000 and they are still on the car. And still have tread.

It depends on what you like. I like the Michelins because of the grip and less road noise even towards the end of the tread life. I tend more towards street tread, and the ride and tracking are very nice with the Michelins. I have seen some radical mud treads on those japanese tires. They look pretty good, like they should do the job.

Best I've found for the money are Donlops. They ride nice, and come in more of the sizes you want. They bite pretty good too, depending on the style you like. I know that doesn't sound scientific, but they're worth a look.

I have General Grabber HTS on my Dodge Megacab and I am very happy with them. 65,000 miles sofar and have another at least 10,000 or more, and MOSTLY I never rotated them blush

Good traction on ice and packed snow, and mostly very quiet. They cost almost 1/2 of Michelins.
