Humminbird SI questions?

What changes did they make from the 897 to the 898? Thinking about buying one. Also if I ran it side by side with a Lowrance unit, would I get interference?

There wasn't an 897, the 898 and 858 were the first (and still only) HB 800 series models.

If you're using the units on the same frequencies, like 83/200 for conventional sonar, you will get interference.

PJ is the 800 series being phased out or maybe I heard the 900 was being pushed aside?

From a SI/DI standpoint, Lowrances run very well on 800 Khz and Humminbirds run very well on 455, so in that respect, yes, they would get along nicely.

As far as I know there are no plans to phase out either series. The 800 series was new last year and has been a huge seller, and the 900 series was just updated last year too.

Lowrance has the 5, 7, 8 and 10 models ---- HB matches up with the 700, 800, 900 and 1100 series. They're matched up really well and very competitive in the market right now so I'd be surprised to see one of them go away.

998 has ethernet capabilities to link units,(although the software isnt out just yet, but soon.)

Faster processer in the 998 also I believe.

Certainly probable that there will be software updates eventually that the 997 will not be able to handle, that the 998 will, but to date, everything that the 998 will do, the 997 can do, with the exception of ethernet capabilities

I agree. The updates to the 998 were the ethernet port, and a better processor to handle the ethernet. The new processor handles the map cards better too.
